Title: Requires Employers Provide Paid Sick Leave

Vote to pass a bill that requires employers with more than 50 employees provide paid sick leave.

Highlights:

 

  • Requires every private employer in this state with at least 50 employees to provide to their employees a minimum of 0.01923 hours of paid leave for each hour worked by the employee beginning on the 90th calendar day (3 months) of employment (Sec. 1).

  • Authorizes employees to immediately use paid leave upon availability and does not require employees to provide a reason to their employer of such use (Sec. 1).

  • Authorizes employers to do the following, including, but not limited to (Sec. 1):

    • Limit the use of paid leave to 40 hours per benefit year;

    • Limit the amount of paid leave that may be carried over into the next year to 40 hours per benefit year; and

    • Set a minimum increment that an employee may use to at any one time, not to exceed 4 hours.

  • Requires that employees maintain and keep records and receipts of the paid leave used for each employee in a one year period (Sec. 1).

  • Requires the Labor Commissioner of Nevada to enforce the above mentioned provisions (Sec. 2).

  • Specifies that any violation of this act shall be a misdemeanor and authorizes the Commissioner to impose an additional fine of $5,000 (Sec. 3).
