A vote to pass a bill that authorizes confidentiality requirements for public employee retirement records.

Highlights:

• Requires the Public Employees’ Retirement Board to keep the following information about a current or former member of a public retirement system confidential (Sec. 1):

• The identification number of the former member;

• The last public employer of the current or former member;

• The number of years of service credit the current or former member has with the public retirement system;

• The retirement date of the current or former member;

• The amount of annual pension benefit paid to the current or former member; and

• Whether the current or former member receives a disability retirement allowance or a service retirement allowance from the public retirement system.

• Specifies that any of the above information may only be disclosed to a third party if (Sec. 1):

• Such disclosure is necessary for the Board to carry out its duties; and

• The Board executes a confidentiality agreement with the third party before providing the third party with any confidential information.

• Defines “identification number” as the unique number assigned by the public retirement system to the record or file of each current or former member or beneficiary of such a member (Sec. 1).
