Title: Amends Abortion Laws
A vote to pass a bill that amends abortion laws.
Repeals an previous condition requiring the woman seeking an abortion to certify in writing her marital status and proof of age (Sec. 1).
Repeals a previous condition requiring the physician to explain the emotional implications of having an abortion (Sec 2).
Repeals previous criminal penalties associated with the termination of a pregnancy (Sec. 6).
Requires that the physician performing an abortion obtain the informed consent of the woman seeking the abortion (Sec. 1).
Requires the attending physician to orally explain to the pregnant individual in an accurate and thorough manner the following (Sec. 2):
The estimated gestational age;
The proper procedure to be used;
The discomforts and risks that may accompany or follow the procedure;
Offer to answer any questions the woman has concerning the procedure;
Provide the woman with a copy of a form indicating her consent.
Defines “informed consent” as being given by a woman seeking an abortion when the form indicating consent has been signed and dated by the woman, an interpreter (if used), and the attending physician (Sec. 2).
Specifies that this act shall take effect July 1, 2019 (Sec. 7).
