Title: Amends Requirements for Missing Persons Reports
Vote to pass a bill that amends requirements for missing persons reports by law enforcement officers.
Requires all law enforcement authorities to accept, without delay, any report of a missing person unless there are extenuating circumstances, including the following (Sec. 1):
The law enforcement authority knows the location of the person reported missing;
The law enforcement authority confirms the safe status of the person reporting missing;
The law enforcement authority confirms that another law enforcement authority has or will accept a missing person report for the person; or
Other circumstances documented by the law enforcement authority.
Requires all missing persons reports to be entered into the database of the National Crime Information Center within the the US Department of Justice within 2 hours of receipt for persons under 21, or 8 hours of receipt for persons 21 years or older (Sec. 1).
Requires all law enforcement authorities to submit information regarding a missing child to the missing children information program (Sec. 2).
Requires the Secretary of State to send a copy of this Act to the Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Assistant Secretary of Indian Affairs at the US Department of the Interior (Sec. 3).
