Title: Prohibits Driving in the Left Lane for More than 1.5 Miles
Vote to pass a bill that prohibits drivers from using the leftmost lane for more than 1.5 miles.
Requires drivers using an interstate highway, a vehicle not remain in the left lane for more than 1.5 miles without completely passing another vehicle (Sec. 2).
Requires drivers use the right half of roadways, except under the following conditions (Sec. 2):
When overtaking and passing another vehicle;
When an obstruction exists making it necessary to drive in the left lane;
Upon a roadway divided into 3 marked lanes for traffic under rules applicable there; and
Upon a roadway restricted to one-way traffic;
When traffic conditions or congestion make it necessary to operate a vehicle in the leftmost lane;
When inclement weather, obstructions, or hazards make it necessary to operate a vehicle in the leftmost lane;
When compliance with a law, rule, ordinance, or traffic control device makes it necessary to operate a vehicle in the leftmost lane;
When exiting a roadway to the left;
When paying a toll or user fee at a toll collection facility;
If the vehicle is an authorized emergency vehicle operating in the course of duty; or
If the vehicle is operating or being used in the course of highway maintenance or construction, or is traveling through a construction zone.
Specifies that this act will become effective 3 months after being signed into law (Sec. 5).
