Title: Increases Access to Birth Control
Vote to pass a bill that increases access to birth control.
Authorizes a pharmacist to dispense self-administered oral hormonal contraceptives to a person who is 18 years old or older under a prescription order which shall have no expiration date (Sec. 2).
Defines “self-administered oral hormonal contraceptive” as a drug composed of a combination of hormones that is approved by the Food and Drug Administration to prevent pregnancy (Sec. 1).
Requires pharmacist follow certain rules adopted under this act, including but not limited to (Sec. 4):
Complete a training program approved by the board of pharmacy that is related to prescribing self-administered oral contraceptives;
Provide a self-screening risk assessment tool that the patient shall use prior to the contraceptive prescription; and
Once a year refer the patient to their primary care practitioner.
Specifies that nothing in this act shall allow a pharmacist to make a therapeutic substitution of a pharmaceutical prescribed by a physician unless authorized in writing by the prescription order (Sec. 7).
