Title: Amends Ballot Initiative Requirements

Vote to pass a bill that amends ballot initiative requirements.

Highlights:

 

  • Requires petitions for an initiative be circulated and signatures obtained beginning the date that the petitioners have received both the fiscal impact statement from the decision of financial management and the official ballot title from the secretary of state, and extending 270 days from the date, or April 30 if the year of the next general election, whichever occurs earlier (Sec. 1).

  • Requires the person or organization under whose authority the measure is to be initiated to submit the petition containing signatures to the county clerk for verification no later than the close of business on the 1st day of May in the year an election of which the initiative will be held, 270 days from the date the petitioner receives the official ballot title from the secretary of state, whichever is earlier (Sec. 1).

  • Requires the number of signatures shall be no less than 10 percent of qualified electors at the time of the last general election in at least two-thirds of the legislative districts  (Sec. 2).
