Title: Prohibits Employers from Stopping Employees from Discussing Wages

Vote to pass a bill that prohibits employers from stopping employees from discussing their wages, effective July 1, 2019.

Highlights:

 

  • Prohibits an employer from requiring the following as a condition of employment or application for employment (Sec. 1):

    • Providing information regarding past wages, benefits, or salary history;

    • Refraining from disclosing, discussing, or sharing information about wages, benefits, or other compensation; and

    • Signing a waiver or other documentation agreeing to not disclose the amount of their wages, benefits, or other compensation or to inquire about or discuss information about another employee’s wages, benefits, or other compensation with others, if that information is voluntarily disclosed by the other employee.

  • Specifies that the wages, benefits, or other compensation of public employees, including state employees, officials, and appointees of officials, is public record (Sec. 1).
