Title: Prohibits Restaurant Use of Plastic Straws Unless Specifically Requested
Vote to pass a bill that prohibits restaurant use of plastic straws unless specifically requested.
Prohibits the use of single-use plastic straws (Sec. 2).
Requires a food service business to provide a single-use plastic straw to a customer only when explicitly requested by the customer (Sec. 2).
Defines “single-use plastic straw” as a single-use, disposable tube made predominantly of plastic derived from either petroleum or a biologically based polymer, such as corn or other plant sources, used to transfer a beverage from a container to the mouth of an individual drinking the beverage (Sec. 2).
Specifies that single-use plastic straws do not include a straw made from a non-plastic material, including, but not limited to, paper, paste, sugar cane, wood, or bamboo (Sec. 2).
Defines “food service business” as a business that sells or provides food for consumption on or off the premises, and includes, but not limited to (Sec. 2):
Restaurants;
Cafes;
Delicatessens;
Coffee shops
Supermarkets or grocery stores;
Vending trucks or carts;
Food trucks;
Movie theaters; or
Business or institutional cafeterias.
Specifies that food service business does not include any healthcare facility required to be licensed by the state (Sec. 2).
