Title: Prohibits Abortion After 18 Weeks

Vote to pass a bill to prohibits abortions after 18 weeks of gestation.

Highlights:

 

  • Defines “Gestational age” as the age of an unborn child as calculated from the first day of the last menstrual period of the pregnant individual (Sec. 1).

  • Prohibits a pregnant individual from attaining, performing or attempting an abortion after an unborn child reaches 18 weeks of gestational age unless under the following circumstances, including, but not limited to (Sec. 2):

    • Pregnant individual’s medical record that the unborn fetus has a lethal or severe brain abnormality that is uniformly diagnosable; and

    • Pregnant individual became pregnant as a result of rape or incest.

  • Defines “Severe brain abnormality” as a malformation or defect that causes an individual to live in a mentally vegetative state and specifies that it does not include the following, including (Sec. 1):

    • Down syndrome;

    • Spina bifida;

    • Cerebral palsy; or

    • Any other malformation, defect, or condition that does not cause an individual to live in a mentally vegetative state.
