Vote to pass a bill that authorizes the state to give graduation proficiency test to high school students.

Highlights:

• Requires the state to administer an assessment or assessment designed to test high school proficiency (Sec. 5).

• Requires any pupil who initially does not demonstrate proficiency on the assessment or assessments to be given an opportunity to retest (Sec. 5).

• Requires the local board of education to provide all students with appropriate instructional support and preparation to meet the State graduation proficiency standards (Sec. 7).

• Requires that students in the graduating classes of 2019 and 2020 to be deemed to have met the graduation assessment requirements if they satisfy the State board of Education regulations that were in place as of December 30, 2019 (Sec. 5).

• Requires the graduation proficiency assessment or assessments to be developed or designated by the Commissioner of Education, with the approval of the State Board of Education for the graduating classes of 2021 (Sec. 5).
