Title: Amends Various Election Laws

  • Requires a criminal history record background check for all current of prospective permanent or temporary employees of the State Board and country directors of elections, which shall be conducted by the Department of Public Safety (Sec. 1c).

  • Authorizes the Department of Public Safety to charge a fee to offset costs incurred to conduct a criminal record background check under this act for current or prospective employees (Sec. 1a).

  • Defines “current or prospective employee” as any of the following, including (Sec. 1b):

    • A permanent or temporary employee of the State Board or county director of elections;

    • A contractor with the State Board; or

    • Any other individual otherwise engaged by the State Board who has the capacity to update, modify, or change election systems or confidential ethics data.

  • Defines “State Board” as the State Board of Elections and Ethics Enforcement (Sec. 1b).

  • Specifies that all criminal history uncovered will not be public record and shall be provided to the Executive Director of the State Board who shall keep all information confidential (Sec. 1b).
