Highlights:

 

  • Prohibits the following people from qualification as a candidate for public office (Sec. 1):

    • Any person under an order of imprisonment for conviction of a felony; and

    • Any person who has been convicted of a crime committed either in the state of Louisiana, or outside of the state of Louisiana, which is deemed by the state of Louisiana as a felony.

  • Exempts those who have been convicted of a felony, but have completed their original sentence more than five years prior to seeking candidacy (Sec. 1).

  • Specifies that no person convicted of a felony is prohibited from being employed by the state or a political subdivision (Sec. 1).
