Title: Amends Licensing for Electricians
A vote to pass with amendment a bill that amends the regulations on electrician licensing.
Amends the conditions that the Department of Housing, Buildings and Construction uses to issue a license for the title of “electrician” to require the completion of only 2 years of verified experience in the electrical trade since their 16th birthday, 2 years of a 4 year training course in electrical work, and a passing score on all portions of the examination required and administered by the department, and repeals the requirement of needing an associate’s degree or diploma program in electrical technology at a college within the Kentucky Community and Technical College System (Sec. 1).
Requires the Department of Housing, Buildings and Construction to issue a nonrenewable provisional license for the title of “electrician” to an applicant who: (Sec. 1)
Is a Kentucky resident; and
Has completed at least 6 years of verifiable experience and has worked 2,080 hours a year for those 6 years in the electrical trade since the applicant’s 16th birthday.
Specifies that the nonrenewable provisional license expires after 1 year of its issuance (Sec. 1).
Requires the Department of Housing, Buildings and Construction to issue a license for the title of “electrician” to a provisional license holder who has, prior to the provisional license’s expiration: (Sec. 1)
Passed all portions of the examination required by the department;
Paid the department an application fee of $50; and
Paid the department the examination fee.
