Title: Prohibits Jurisdictions From Establishing Sanctuary Status

Vote to pass a bill that prohibits jurisdictions under the state from establishing sanctuary status.

Highlights:

 

  • Prohibits jurisdictions from (Sec. 2):

    • Restricting officials and employees from communicating with federal agencies information regarding the citizenship or immigration status of any individual; and

    • Restricting the state or any of its subdivisions from communicating with federal agencies information regarding the citizenship or immigration status of any individual;

  • Requires the governing body of any county, city, or municipality to submit an annual, written report indicating that (Sec. 2):

    • It is in compliance with the aforementioned requirements;

    • It has not been notified by the federal government that it is not in compliance with federal immigration law; and

    • It has not been denied federal grant money.

  • Specifies that this applies to jurisdictions with populations of 25,000 (Sec. 2).

  • Requires these reports to be submitted from January 1, 2020 through January 1, 2030 (Sec. 2).

  • Specifies that this act takes effect July 1, 2019 (Sec. 3).
