Vote to pass a bill that specifies the health professionals able to perform abortions and authorizes the procedure in life threatening situations.

Highlights:

• Authorizes a licensed health care practitioner to perform an abortion when according to the practitioner’s reasonable and good faith professional judgment based on the facts of the patient’s case, which include the following (Sec. 1):

• The patient is within 24 weeks from the commencement of pregnancy;

• There is an absence of fetal viability; or

• The abortion is necessary to protect the patient’s life or health.

• Prohibits the state from discriminating against, denying, or interfering with the exercise of the rights in this section in the regulation or provision of benefits, facilities, services or information (Sec.1).

• Specifies that every individual has the fundamental right to choose or refuse contraception or sterilization (Sec.1).

• Specifies that every individual who becomes pregnant has the fundamental right to choose to carry the pregnancy to term, to give birth to a child, or to have an abortion (Sec. 1).

• Repeals clause that defines a homicide as conduct which causes the death of an unborn child with which a female has been pregnant for more than twenty four weeks (Sec. 1).
