Title: Establishes State Parental Leave

Vote to pass a bill with amendment that establishes state parental leave regulations.

Highlights:

 

  • Requires that a state employee who is the primary caregiver responsible for the care and nurturing of a child may use up to 60 days of parental leave to care for the child during either of the following (Sec. 1):

    • The birth of the employee’s child; or

    • The placement of a child under the age of 6 with the employee for adoption.

  • Authorizes an employee to use additional accrued annual leave and personal leave available as parental leave (Sec. 1).

  • Specifies that an employee may use parental leave only after obtaining approval from the employee’s appointing authority (Sec. 1).

  • Requires an employee using parental leave following the birth of their child provide their immediate supervisor with information specified by the Secretary on the Federal Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993 in order to receive payment (Sec. 1).

  • Specifies that an employee that uses parental leave for adoption purposes may not receive payment unless the employee provides their immediate supervisor with the certificate required by the guidelines issued by the Secretary on the Federal Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993 (Sec. 1).

  • Specifies that this act shall go into effect October 1, 2018 (Sec. 3).
