Vote Smart's Synopsis:

Vote to pass a bill that requires schools maintain a supply of opioid antidotes.

Highlights:

• Defines “Opioid antidote” as naloxone hydrochloride, or any other similarly acting drug, regardless of dosage amount or method of administration, including nasal spray or any other FDA approved means or methods (Sec. 1).

• Authorizes full immunity to any school, school district, school nurse, employee, or other officer that administers between 1 and 3 doses of any type of opioid antidote to an overdose victim (Sec. 8).

• Specifies that any school, school district, school nurse, or school employee that administers or permits an opioid antidote in good faith and in accordance with the guidelines of this act shall not be subject to any criminal or civil liability (Sec. 8).

• Specifies that no later than 45 days after the enactment date of this act, the Commissioner of Health shall provide notice to all emergency medical response entities affected by this act on the change in law (Sec. 8).

• Defines “Emergency medical response entities” as the following roles, including,but not limited to (Sec. 7):

• A first aid, rescue and ambulance squad or other basic life support provider;

• An ambulance provider, or mobile intensive care provider and other advanced life support ambulance provider; or

• An air medical service provider or fire fighting company whose qualified to send paid or volunteer emergency medical responders to the scene.
