Vote to pass with amendment a bill that authorizes the official recognition of the Lunar New Year in the state of California.

Highlights:

• Establishes a day of special significance in the state of California on the second new moon following the winter solstice, between the dates of January 21 and February 20 (Sec. 1).

• Specifies that on the date of the Lunar New Year, all public schools and educational institutions are encouraged to conduct exercises that recognize the traditions and cultural significance of the Lunar New Year to American of Asian descent (Sec. 2).

• Specifies that many jurisdictions around the United States and California, including the counties and cities of San Francisco and New York has designated the Lunar New Year as an official school holiday (Sec. 2).
