Title: Requires Corrections Officers to Complete 4 Hours of Sexual Assault Prevention Training

Vote to pass a bill that reduces the required hours of training on the prevention of sexual assault for law enforcement officers from 8 hours to 4 hours.

Highlights:

 

  • Requires 20 hours of annual in-service training for each correctional police officer in every state correctional facility (Sec. 1).

  • Specifies that of those 20 hours, at least 4 must include the following training (Sec. 1):

    • Sexual assault, sexual abuse, and sexual harassment prevention;

    • Non-fraternization and undue familiarity; and

    • Conditioning and manipulation awareness.

  • Prohibits an officer from engaging in a personal or business relationship with an inmate, a member of the inmate’s family, or a close associate of the inmate for a minimum of 90 days after the release of the inmate (Sec. 2).

  • Specifies that this bill will take effect 13 months after enactment (Sec. 3).
