Vote to pass a bill that prohibits pet shops from selling animals that were not obtained from an animal shelter.

Highlights:

• Prohibits pet shops from selling any cat or dog unless it was obtained from or is displayed in cooperation with an animal shelter, dog pound, or rescue (Sec. 2).

• Requires pet shops to maintain records as to where an animal was obtained for at least 2 years after the date of acquisition of the animal (Sec. 2).

• Requires pet shops to conspicuously post on each cage the location from which the animal was obtained (Sec. 2).

• Prohibits any individual or organization from selling, exchanging, or trading any dog or cat in any public space, regardless of whether access to such space is authorized (Sec. 2).
