Title: Establishes Licensing for Naturopaths

Vote to pass a bill which establishes a licensing authority for naturopathic physicians.

Highlights:

 

  • Prohibits individuals from practicing naturopathic medicine without a license (Sec. 18611).

  • Prohibits individuals who are not licensed naturopathic physicians from identifying themselves using terms including, but not limited to, the following (Sec. 18611):

    • Doctor of naturopathic medicine;

    • Doctor of naturopathy;

    • N.D.; and

    • N.M.D.

  • Defines “approved naturopathic program” as including, but not limited to, the following (Sec. 18603):

    • A naturopathic medicine program in the US that meets various requirements, including clinical training and accreditation; or

    • A naturopathic medicine program in Canada that meets various requirements, including clinical training and accreditation.

  • Requires candidates for licensing as naturopathic physicians to submit an application, submit evidence that they are a graduate of an approved naturopathic program, and submit evidence that they have passed a board-approved competency examination (Sec. 18613).
