Vote to pass a bill that defines an intentional crime against law enforcement officers as a hate crime punishable by up to 10 years in prison.

Highlights:

• Requires a sentence of up to 10 years in prison for an individual found to have knowingly caused serious bodily harm or injury to a law enforcement officer or attempted to do so (Sec. 2).

• Requires a sentence of either life in prison or death for individuals found guilty of crimes that resulted in the kidnapping or death of a law enforcement officer (Sec. 2).

• Defines “law enforcement officer” as an employee of a governmental or public agency who is authorized by law to do the following, including, but not limited to (Sec. 2):

• Engage in or supervise the prevention, detention, investigation, or incarceration of any person for any criminal violation of law; and

• To apprehend or arrest a person for any criminal violation of law.
