Vote to pass a bill that prohibits localities from enacting sanctuary policies.

Highlights:

• Prohibits any state governmental entity or official from enacting a sanctuary policy (Sec. 1).

• Prohibits governmental entities that have enacted sanctuary policies from receiving state funding until such sanctuary policy is repealed (Sec. 1).

• Defines “sanctuary policy” as any ordinance or policy, formal or informal, that does any of the following (Sec. 1):

• Grants lawful status to any undocumented immigrant;

• Prohibits responding to requests from the Immigration and Naturalization Service;

• Prohibits or limits any government employee from communicating or cooperating with federal agencies regarding immigration;

• Restricts a governmental entity’s ability to comply with detainer requests or custody transfer requests;

• Requires the Department of Homeland Security to obtain a warrant or demonstrate probable cause before complying with detainers or requests; or

• Prohibits law enforcement from inquiring into immigration status.
