Vote to pass a bill that requires the Department of Justice to release information about defendants who participate in pre-trial release programs, as well as an annual report on how agencies are using federal funds to offer these programs.
Highlights:
- Requires pretrial release agencies receiving federal funds to submit an annual report to the Department of Justice (DOJ) on how the funds are used (Sec. 2).
- Requires the report to include the following information about the defendants released through the program (Sec. 2):
- Criminal history, including previous charges filed;
- Previous failures to appear for court proceedings; and
- Previous and current non-compliance infractions.
- Requires the DOJ to publicize this information (Sec. 2).
- Requires the DOJ to remove federal grants for these programs for any state or local government that fails to comply with these reporting requirements (Sec. 2).
