Title: Prohibits Lobbyist Gifts to Government Officials
Vote to pass a joint resolution that proposes an amendment to the state constitution which would amend term limits and prohibit government officials from accepting gifts from lobbyists.
Prohibits a member of the General Assembly or such individual’s staff, spouse, or dependant children from accepting any expenditure from a lobbyist (Sec. A).
Defines “expenditure” as including, not being limited to, the following (Sec. A):
A payment made;
A charge, debt, bill, cost, or expense incurred;
A gift, honorarium, or item of value given, including food and beverage;
A price, fee, or charge that is waived, reduced, or forgiven; and
A loan or debt with is cancelled, reduced, or forgiven.
Prohibits any individual from serving as an elected official in the General Assembly for more than a total of 16 years (Sec. A).
Prohibits any member of the General Assembly from serving for more than 4 years in each of the following positions (Sec. A):
Speaker of the House;
President pro tempore of the Senate;
House majority leader;
House minority leader;
Senate majority leader; and
Senate minority leader.
