Vote to pass a bill that authorizes courts to order cell phone companies to transfer accounts from a domestic abuser to the victim.

Highlights:

• Authorizes a court to order a cell phone company to transfer an account and its associated phone number(s) from a domestic abuser to the victim, upon a petition from the victim (Sec. 1).

• Requires the petitioner to provide evidence that he or she or any minor children in his or her care are the primary user(s) of the phone number(s) that are being petitioned for transfer (Sec. 1).

• Specifies that this bill does not prohibit a cell phone company from practicing routine requirements in order to make the transfer, such as requesting personal identification or financial information (Sec. 1).

• Specifies that a cell phone company and its employees are not civilly liable for action taken in compliance with an order or for a failure to process an order (Sec. 1).
