Title: Requires Report on School Suspensions

Vote to pass a bill that requires the Department of Education to create a report on the number and demographics of students suspended from school.

Highlights:

 

  • Requires the Department of Education to compile and release an annual report on student discipline in all schools over the 3 most recent consecutive years as follows, including, but not limited to (Sec. 2):

    • Individual and statewide totals of in-school and out-of-school suspensions, expulsions, and alternative school assignments broken down by race, ethnicity, gender, grade level, or limited english proficiency; and

    • Incident type, discipline duration, and if the student is identified to have a disability.

  • Specifies that the report shall exclude racial subgroups that contain fewer than 15 students (Sec. 2):

  • Specifies that the department of education shall compile and release the annual report on student discipline to the departments website no later than October 30 (Sec. 2).
