Vote to pass a bill that prohibits landlords from discriminating against tenants based on source of income, effective September 30, 2018.

Highlights:

• Prohibits landlords, based on source of income, from engaging in practices including, but not limited to, the following (Sec. 1):

• Refusal to lease or rent to a tenant;

• Expulsion or eviction of a tenant;

• Discrimination in terms, conditions, or fees;

• Intimidation of individuals due to exercising rights guaranteed by this act; and

• Representation that a unit is not available when it is in fact available.

• Defines “source of income” as any legal source of income including, but not limited to, the following (Sec. 1):

• Housing assistance;

• Emergency rental assistance;

• Veterans benefits;

• Social security; and

• Supplemental security income.
