Vote to pass a bill that prohibits sanctuary policies and requires local governments to comply with federal immigration officials.

Highlights:

• Defines “sanctuary policy” as a law or practice permitted by a state or local government which knowingly prohibits or impedes local law enforcement agencies from communicating or cooperating with a federal immigration agency (Sec. 2).

• Requires all state entities, local governments, and law enforcement agencies to fully comply with and support enforcement of the federal immigration law (Sec. 2).

• Requires local law enforcement agencies to comply with a request from the federal immigration agency to notify the agency before the release of an undocumented individual in the custody of a local government (Sec. 2).

• Authorizes a federal immigration agency to transport a detainee from local law enforcement into federal custody if the agency has received verification they are an undocumented individual (Sec. 2).

• Requires local law enforcement to check the citizenship status of an individual unable to provide proof of citizenship within 48 hours of being arrested, and provide immediate notice to federal immigration agencies of the arrest and charges if determined that the individual is undocumented (Sec. 2).
