Title: Requires Review of Cabinet Departments

Vote to pass a bill that requires periodic audits and reviews of state agencies under the Governor's oversight.

Highlights:

  • Requires the legislature to conduct a review every 2 years of agencies under the governor’s authority including but not limited to (Sec. 1):

    • The Environmental Protection Agency;

    • The Department of Agriculture;

    • The Department of Family Services;

    • The Department of Transportation; and

    • The Departments of Medicaid, Aging, and Health.

  • Prohibits the legislature from abolishing or terminating departments by any means other than the passage of a law (Sec. 1).

  • Requires the legislature to establish a standing committee to investigate each department within 3 months of the legislature convening (Sec. 1).

  • Requires a random performance audit of 4 departments every year (Sec. 1).

  • Authorizes the auditor to perform an audit of one of the state’s higher education institutions as 1 of the 4 required performance audits (Sec. 1).
