  • Establishes the “Blue Alert System” to aid in the identification, location, and apprehension of individuals suspected of killing or seriously wounding a law enforcement officer (Sec. A).

  • Requires the Department of Public Safety to coordinate with law enforcement agencies and television and radio broadcasters in providing the public with an alert about an occurrence involving a wounded or killed officer (Sec. A).  

  • Specifies that participation in the alert system is optional for law enforcement agencies, broadcasters, and other public and private entities (Sec. A).

  • Establishes a committee to oversee the alert system and expand ways of providing public notices related to homeland security, crime, health emergencies, and other imminent dangers (Sec. A).
