Vote to pass a bill that prohibits the use of a handheld device to engage in a phone call while driving, effective June 1, 2018.
Prohibits the use of a handheld mobile device to engage in a phone call while operating a moving vehicle beginning on June 1, 2018 (Secs. 1 & 2).
Establishes a fine of up to $100 for each violation (Sec. 1)
Authorizes the fine to be waived for first-time violations if proof of purchase of a hands-free device is provided by the offender (Sec. 1).
Exempts public safety personnel, emergency situations, and engaging in a phone call using a hands-free device (Sec. 1).
