Vote to pass a bill that requires large employers in retail, hospitality, and food industries to provide employees with 7 days' notice of work schedules.
Requires certain employers to notify employees in writing of their work schedule at least 7 calendar days in advance starting on January 1, 2019 (Secs. 5 & 16).
Specifies that the work schedule notice period will extend to 14 days on July 1, 2020 (Secs. 5 & 16).
Specifies that this bill applies to employers in retail, hospitality, and food services that have 500 or more employees worldwide (Sec. 3).
Authorizes an employee to refuse additional hours or shifts that were not included in the required work schedule notice (Sec. 5).
Requires an employer to compensate an employee with extra pay for additional hours that were not included in the required work schedule notice (Sec. 7).
Requires an employer to provide an estimate of the expected hours an employee will work in an average 1-month period (Sec. 4).
Prohibits scheduling an employee to work a shift within 10 hours of the conclusion of their last shift unless that employee consents to or is paid extra for the hours (Sec. 6).
Authorizes an employer to maintain a voluntary standby list to address short-term changes to scheduling such as unexpected customer needs or employee absences (Secs. 4 & 5).
Requires all schedule notices to be accessible, in language and location, to all employees (Sec. 8).
