A vote to pass a bill that prohibits suction dredge mining on rivers and streams with essential salmonid species.

Highlights:

•  Prohibits suction dredge mining operations in areas with essential salmonid populations up to the ordinary line of high water for rivers and streams with high salmonid populations (Sec. 4).

• Prohibits motorized in-stream placer mining from involving (Sec. 5):

• The operation of motorized equipment within 1,000 feet of a residence or campground between the hours of either 8 p.m. or sunset, whichever is earlier, and 8 a.m.;

• The operation of a motorized suction dredge which has a suction hose with an inside diameter exceeding 4 inches; and

• Involving the operation of motorized equipment in a manner harmful to freshwater mollusks, essential indigenous salmonid habitat, or habitat essential to the recovery and conservation of Pacific lamprey.
