Highlights:

• Prohibits post-secondary educational institutions in Indiana from establishing a formal or informal sanctuary policy (Sec. 1).

• Defines a sanctuary policy as anything that (Sec. 1):

• Limits in some way communication and cooperating with federal, local and state government on matters concerning an individual’s citizenship or immigration status;

• Does not honor a request made by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security; or

• Is noncompliant with the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996.

• Specifies that certain policies of postsecondary educational institutions that are established to protect crime victims and witnesses do not constitute a sanctuary policy (Sec. 8).

• Does not apply to individuals who are granted a federal status of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival (Sec. 2).
