Vote to pass a bill which authorizes a measure which calls for the appropriation of funds for parks and climate initiatives to appear on the ballot in the June, 2018 primary election.

Highlights:

  • Authorizes $3.1 billion in bonds to be issued and sold to provide funds for carrying out clean water, climate, and coastal protection (Sec. 1).
  • Authorizes the legislature to appropriate funds to various conservation and parks programs in the state, including, but not limited to (Sec. 1):
    • $900 million to the Department of Parks and Recreation for the creation of safe neighborhood parks in park-poor neighborhoods;
    • $600 million to plan, develop, and implement climate adaptation and resiliency projects that improve a community’s ability to adapt to the impacts of climate change;
    • $425 million to the Department of Parks and Recreation for local park rehabilitation, creation, and improvement grants to local governments on a per capita basis; and
    • $330 million to the Department of Parks and Recreation for restoration and preservation of existing state park facilities and units.
  • Requires 20 percent of all funds authorized by this bill to be appropriated to severely disadvantaged communities, except in certain circumstances (Sec. 1).
  • Requires the Secretary of State to submit this bill to the voters on the statewide direct primary election on June 5, 2018 (Sec. 2).
