Vote to pass a bill that authorizes individuals with a protective order to carry a handgun without a license.

Highlights:

• Authorizes individuals to carry a handgun without a license if they meet the following conditions (Sec. 2):
• The individual is protected by a protection order;
• The individual is at least 18 years old; and
• The individual is not otherwise prohibited from carrying a handgun.

• Specifies that individuals described above may carry a handgun for a period of 60 days after the protection order is issued (Sec. 2).

• Authorizes the legislative council to form a study committee to investigate the effects of repealing the handgun licensing law, including, but not limited to, studies of the following topics (Sec. 3):
• The fiscal impact of such a repeal;
• The rate at which handguns are used in suicides in Indiana; and
• The rate at which handguns are used in crimes in Indiana.
