Vote to pass a bill that prohibits an individual from selling personal care products containing plastic microbeads, effective January 1, 2020.

Highlights:

• Prohibits an individual from selling or offering a personal care product containing plastic microbeads used to exfoliate or cleanse in a rinse-off product (Sec. 1).

• Defines “plastic microbead” as a plastic particle measuring 5 millimeters or less (Sec. 1).

• Defines “personal care product” as an article that is rubbed, sprinkled, or sprayed on the human body for the purpose of cleansing, beautifying, or altering appearance, not including prescription drugs (Sec. 1).

• Exempts from the provisions of this bill personal care products that contain plastic microbeads that weigh less than 0.0001 percent of the total weight of the product (Sec. 1).

• Establishes a fine of $2,500 per day for a violation of the provisions of this bill (Sec. 1).
