Title: Enforce the Law for Sanctuary Cities Act

Vote to pass a bill that prohibits funding to state or local governments that restrict law enforcement from requesting an individual's citizenship or immigration status.

Highlights:

  • Prohibits a state or local government from entering into a contractual arrangement with the U.S. Attorney General that provides compensation to the state or local government for the incarceration of an undocumented immigrant who has been convicted of a felony or 2 or more misdemeanors, if the state or local government meets any of the following conditions (Sec. 2):
    • The state or local government has in effect any law or policy that prevents a government entity from receiving, maintaining, sending, or requesting information regarding the citizenship or immigration status of an individual; or
    • The state or local government prohibits state or local law enforcement officials from gathering information regarding the citizenship or immigration status of an individual.
  • Requires the U.S. Attorney General to withhold a grant awarded under the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968 from any state or local government who meets one of the conditions outlined in the provisions of this bill (Sec. 3).
