Vote to concur with House amendments and pass a bill that increases minimum wage.

Highlights:

  • Increases the minimum wage for an employee of an employer with 26 or more employees from $10 per hour to the following amounts (Sec. 3):
    • $10.50 per hour from January 1, 2017, to December 31, 2017;
    • $11 per hour from January 1, 2018 to December 31, 2018;
    • $12 per hour from January 1, 2019 to December 31, 2019;
    • $13 per hour from January 1, 2020 to December 31, 2020;
    • $14 per hour from January 1, 2021 to December 31, 2021; and
    • $15 per hour from January 1, 2022 until further adjusted.
  • Increases the minimum wage for an employee of an employer with 25 or fewer employees from $10 per hour to the following amounts (Sec. 3):
    • $10.50 per hour from January 1, 2018, to December 31, 2018;
    • $11 per hour from January 1, 2019 to December 31, 2019;
    • $12 per hour from January 1, 2020 to December 31, 2020;
    • $13 per hour from January 1, 2021 to December 31, 2021;
    • $14 per hour from January 1, 2022 to December 31, 2022; and
    • $15 per hour from January 1, 2023 until further adjusted.
  • Authorizes the governor to temporarily suspend the scheduled minimum wage increases no more than 2 times if the state General Fund would be in a deficit in the current fiscal year or either of the 2 following fiscal years (Sec. 3).
  • Specifies that if the governor temporarily suspends a scheduled minimum wage increase the subsequent increases will be postponed by a year (Sec. 3).

Highlights:

  • Increases the hourly minimum wage from $9.00 to the following amounts (Sec. 1):
    • $11.00, beginning January 1, 2016; and  
    • $13.00, beginning July 1, 2017.
  • Requires the minimum wage to be increased annually with the rate of inflation as calculated by the California Consumer Price Index, beginning January 1, 2019 (Sec. 1).
  • Prohibits the Industrial Welfare Commission from reducing the minimum wage if the previous year’s rate of inflation was negative (Sec. 1).
  • Requires the Division of Labor Standards Enforcement to publicize the automatically increased minimum wage (Sec. 1).
  • Specifies that the minimum wage increase applies to all industries, including public and private employment (Sec. 1).
