Title: Authorizes Employees to Take Unpaid Leave to Participate in a Presidential Precinct Caucus

Vote to pass a bill that authorizes certain employees to take unpaid leave to participate in a presidential precinct caucus.

Highlights:

  • Authorizes an employee to take up to 4 hours of unpaid leave to participate in a presidential precinct caucus without being subject to any other loss of wages or penalty if the employee applies for the leave at least 2 weeks before the precinct caucus (Sec. 2).
  • Authorizes an employer to deny an application for unpaid leave to participate in a presidential precinct caucus if conditions including, but not limited to, the following are met (Sec. 2):
    • The employee is in a position that affects the protection of public health or safety;
    • The employee is employed by an entity that would experience “severe” economic or operational disruption due to the employee’s absence; or
    • The number of employees in the position that did not apply for leave is less than the minimum staffing level.
  • Classifies unlawfully denying an employee the privilege to participate in a presidential precinct caucus as provided by the provisions of this bill, or penalizing an employee for doing so, as a simple misdemeanor (Sec. 1).
