Vote to pass a bill that prohibits the government from any action that would interfere with an individual's exercise of religion.

  • Prohibits the government from interfering with an individual’s exercise of religion, even if the interference results from a rule of general applicability and is not aimed at limiting the exercise of religion (Sec. 2).
  • Specifies that this applies to any exercise of religion, whether or not it’s compelled by or central to a system of religious beliefs (Sec. 2).

  • Exempts situations involving a compelling government interest as long as the limitation imposed by government is of the least restrictive means of achieving that interest (Sec. 2).

  • Authorizes an individual whose exercise of religion has been infringed upon by government to assert the violation as a claim or defense in court (Sec. 2).
