Title: Amends Minimum Age for Kindergarten Enrollment

Vote to pass a bill that increases the minimum age for kindergarten enrollment by 2 months.

  • Amends the date by which a child must reach 5 years of age to enroll into kindergarten from September 1 of that school year to the following dates (Sec. 2):

    • July 1 prior to the 2018-2019 school year and every year after.

  • Amends the date by which a child must reach 6 years of age to enroll into first grade from September 1 of that school year to the following dates (Sec. 2):

    • August 1 prior to the 2017-2018 school year; and

    • July 1 prior to the 2018-2019 school year and every year after.

  • Authorizes a student who has not reached 20 years of age to enroll in a general education program by the following dates (Sec. 1):

    • August 1 prior to the 2017-2018 school year; and

    • July 1 prior to the 2018-2019 school year and every year after.

  • Authorizes a special education student who has not reached 21 years of age to enroll in an appropriate education program by the following dates (Sec. 1):

    • August 1 prior to the 2017-2018 school year; and

    • July 1 prior to the 2018-2019 school year and every year after.
