Highlights:

  • Requires the superintendent of an accredited school to appoint a school safety team to develop and implement a school safety plan by August 1, 2015 (Secs. 1 & 2).
  • Specifies that the school safety team will consist of the following members (Sec. 1):
    • The principal;
    • A teacher;
    • A counselor;
    • The school resource officer or another law enforcement official;
    • An emergency management professional;
    • A member of the local fire department; and
    • A school custodian.
  • Requires an accredited school to conduct at least 1 lockdown drill per year (Sec. 3).
  • Requires an accredited school to conduct at least 1 annual meeting to review and update the school’s emergency and crisis response plans, protocols, and procedures (Sec. 4).
