Vote to pass a bill that exempts schools from paying prevailing wages to workers constructing schools.

Highlights:

• Exempts school districts, charter schools, and the Nevada System of Higher Education from existing state law that requires the payment of prevailing wages to those working under any contract for construction, alteration, repair, remodeling, reconstruction, or any other “public work” (Sec. 1).

• Repeals existing state law that requires the Nevada System of Higher Education to pay prevailing wages on construction projects estimated to cost $100,000 or more, even if the construction project does not qualify as a “public work” (Sec. 6).

• Authorizes the board of trustees of a school district to issue voter approved general obligation bonds for an additional 10 years after the initial 10 year period without further voter approval (Sec. 2).
