Vote to pass a bill that requires a court to redistribute unclaimed damages awarded in class action lawsuits to legal aid services, effective immediately.

Highlights:

  • Requires a court to order that at least 50 percent of unclaimed damages that are not paid to class action members to be paid to the Oregon State Bar, or another entity with a purpose directly related to the class action or the interests of class action members (Secs. 3 & 4).
  • Specifies that funds paid to the Oregon State Bar are only to be used for the funding of legal aid services through the Legal Services Program (Secs. 3 & 4).
