Title: Establishes a Sales Tax Holiday

Vote to adopt an amendment to H 4165 that establishes a sales tax holiday.

Highlights:

  • Prohibits vendors from adding an excise tax to the sales price of personal items on August 16, 2014 and August 17, 2014 (Sec. XX). 
  • Specifies that certain items are excluded from the provisions of this amendment, including, but not limited to, the following items (Sec. XX): 
    • Tobacco products;
    • Motor vehicles;
    • Meals; and 
    • Single items with a price more than $2,500. 
  • Requires the Commissioner of Revenue to file a report with the Joint Committee on Revenue and the House and Senate Committees on Ways and Means detailing the amount of tax revenue that would have been deposited in each fund without the provisions of this amendment (Sec. XX).
