Vote to pass a bill that prohibits a mental health professional from engaging in sexual orientation change efforts on a patient under the age of 18.

Highlights:

• Prohibits a mental health professional from engaging in “sexual orientation change efforts” with an individual who is under the age of 18 (Sec. 2).

• Defines “sexual orientation change efforts” as any practice by a mental health professional that seeks to change an individual’s sexual orientation including, but not limited to, the following actions (Sec. 2):
• Efforts to change behaviors, gender identity, or gender expressions; or
• Efforts to eliminate or reduce sexual or romantic attractions or feelings towards individuals of the same sex.

• Specifies that counseling for an individual seeking to transition from 1 gender to another and performing psychotherapy that does not seek to change sexual orientation are not prohibited by the provisions of this bill (Sec. 2).
