Vote to pass a bill that amends the Board of Regents appointment process, effective immediately.

Highlights:

• Limits the University of the State of New York Board of Regents membership to 17 members, whereas existing law required the number of members to be 4 more than the number of judicial districts and not less than 15 (Sec. 1).

• Requires certain University of the State of New York Board of Regents to be appointed by the following officials, whereas in existing law members were elected by the legislature (Sec. 1):
• 8 members appointed by the Governor of New York;
• 3 members appointed by the temporary President of the Senate;
• 3 members appointed by the Speaker of the Assembly;
• 1 member appointed by the Minority Leader of the Senate;
• 1 member appointed by the Minority Leader of the Assembly; and
• 1 member appointed by the Governor of New York, Speaker of the Assembly, and Temporary President of the Senate, selected on a rotating basis.
